Online platforms have become a common avenue for initiating relationships, leading to successful marriages for some individuals. However, it's important to be aware of potential pitfalls. Allow me to talk you through some of them.
May I ask whether they are indeed who they represent themselves to be?
Specifically, would they be willing to communicate with you via phone and video chat, ensuring that you can verify their identity with absolute certainty?
2. Are they always asking for money?
Are they giving you absurd excuses as to why you should "lend" them ridiculous amounts of money, is it all the time, have you ever done so and have you ever got it back?
3. Do they claim they are a soldier or that they are abroad for work reasons?
Many scammers claim they are soldiers and even aid workers so they can get out of meeting up or come up with ridiculous reasons as to why they can't be near your location or they are abroad for work and won't be back for months!
4. Do they ask for sensitive, more-than normal information?
Are they asking for bank details, or even social media details, I mean, why are they asking you for details they don't need and you don't want to give them?
Every single one of these, is a reason to always be suspicious of online dating, or at least to take a year before you agree to meet (Just joking) but seriously...
Please, if you do go to meet someone you met online, DON'T go alone.
